![]() This has been an ongoing issue for years but this time I can’t fix it. The printer also worked fine under the users old profile but we had to move them to another and I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling it with every compatible driver on the system but they all do the same thing, in the past when this has happened (either as the result of installing a new printer or just at random with one that was previously working…) this is how I fixed it. The printer in question is not on a print server and also doesn’t have any capabilities to require a user to authenticate with it in order to use it. ![]() If I click on Retry it will actually give me a username/password prompt but I have no idea what to type because I have no idea what it’s trying to authenticate with. How do I make it stop trying to authenticate with whatever? What is the Mac trying to authenticate with? Most of the time when I install a printer on a Mac (download and install driver and then manually add the printer under Printers) and then try to print I wind up with “Hold for Authentication” and I would like to know the following: adding the printer by IP address rather than finding it under Windows in the add printer options.I see all the threads here about this and how just like all the ones I’ve found elsewhere none of them have solutions but since I don’t really see any other options for finding a solution I thought I would ask here anyway. ![]() clicking "remember password" when the login box comes up removing keychains that were there for "login" deleting the printers and re-adding them to the Macs. The Macs are public computers and we do not want anyone to have to enter a password to print from them. The iMacs used to print with no problems too, but since we have re-formatted the PC which is connected to the printer, the iMacs constantly say "On Hold (Authentication Required)" when trying to print.Įvery print job sent to the printer automatically goes onto this hold, and I have to click "Resume" and then enter the username and password of the Administrator on the printer-connected PC. The network here is 1 PC hooked up to a brother hl2070n printer and 1 other PC and 2 iMacs connected to the printer via a network.īoth PC's print fine with no problems. ![]()
